Newer Volatile Anesthetic Agents in Cardiac Anesthesia: Review of Literature
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract Myocardial protection with volatile anesthetic agents have been suggested by multiple studies. These studies, however, are scattered and often limited to a particular aspect of cardiac anesthesia. Older inhalational like halothane is known cause significant hepatic damage in patients undergoing long duration surgeries while isoflurane marked vasodilating properties that also affects the coronary arteries leading “steal” phenomenon. Additionally, newer agents, sevoflurane desflurane, shown more prominent cardioprotective effects than older agents. We searched ScholarOne, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) Library. The medical subject headings (MeSH) terms “anaesthesia, inhalational,” intravenous, or TIVA,” “Cardiac anaesthesia Cardiac Surgery” were used. Additional studies identified review reference sections all eligible aim this article bring together evidences provide holistic view their benefits shortcomings

Activated charcoal adsorption of volatile anesthetic agents for anesthesia machine preparation of malignant hyperthermia susceptible patients.
To the editor: We would like to share recent advancements regarding the utilization of activated charcoal filters to adsorb volatile anesthetic agents (VAAs). Although activated charcoal has been known for many years to adsorb VAAs,1-3 it has only recently become commercially available and endorsed by the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States (MHAUS).4 MHAUS has put forth upda...
متن کاملCardiac Preconditioning by Anesthetic Agents: Roles of Volatile Anesthetics and Opioids in Cardioprotection
Cardiac preconditioning is the most potent and consistently reproducible method of protecting heart tissue against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. This review discussed about the signaling and amplification cascades from either ischemic preconditioning stimulus or pharmacological preconditioning stimulus, the putative end-effectors and the mechanisms involved in cellular protection. The...

This case report describes the anesthetic management and ventilation technique in the surgical treatmentof traumatic diaphragmatic hernia in a dog. A 5-month-old 8-kg female terrier with a history of car accidentwas presented for femoral fracture repair. Before anesthetic induction, marked tachypnea and dyspnea werenoted. Diaphragmatic hernia was diagnosed based upon radiographic and ultrasonog...
متن کاملNewer agents in antiplatelet therapy: a review
Antiplatelet therapy remains the mainstay in preventing aberrant platelet activation in pathophysiological conditions such as myocardial infarction, ischemia, and stroke. Although there has been significant advancement in antiplatelet therapeutic approaches, aspirin still remains the gold standard treatment in the clinical setting. Limitations in safety, efficacy, and tolerability have preclude...
